'jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy' Documentary Will Hit Theaters Before Netflix Debut in February

As Kanye West, excuse me, Ye prepares to go back into the studio to start work on the follow up to his latest music project, Donda, fans of his will be able to see the “jeen-yuhs” of the oft-controversial, yet talented artist who has made strides with his natural creativity.

Iconic Events Releasing has announced that next month on February 10, the company will be releasing Act 1 of the highly anticipated three-part documentary jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy in theaters nationwide. The documentary will make its world premiere at the virtual Sundance Film Festival this month and then be seen in a three-week event on Netflix starting on February 16th.

Last fall, Netflix released a trailer for the documentary ‘Jeen-Yuhs.’

Jeen-Yuhs gathers 20 years of behind-the-scenes footage to paint an “intimate” portrait of Kanye’s meteoric rise from rapper to global brand, Variety reported. The two-minute first look clip finds Ye and rapper Yasiin Bey, then known as Mos Def, rapping their verses from the 2004 track “Two Words,” one of many standout cuts from Kanye’s debut album The College DropoutWhile not offering fans too much insight into what to expect from the new documentary, the trailer served to solidify the type of unreleased archival footage that will be included in the film.

The documentary will be presented in three acts.  jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, which is directed by Coodie & Chikeis (Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah) is an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye West’s experience. The film showcases his formative days as he started to climb to the heights of the music industry and the current life that he has as a global brand and artist. The film shows decades of never-before-seen footage of the complicated artist to delve into the challenges and triumphs of West’s career in music and fashion. The planned release will provide a chance for fans of Ye to see Act 1, which follows the early years of Kanye’s career before it premieres on Netflix. Tickets will be available on sale at local theater box offices.

“Filmmakers Coodie and Chike have created an extraordinary film and we’re honored that they have trusted TIME Studios to produce jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy,” said TIME Studios President Ian Orefice in a written statement. “We’re excited to partner with Iconic Events Releasing to give the world a chance to first experience the once-in-a-generation storytelling in theaters.”
