It takes patience and skills and sometimes luck in order to be successful in the game. It also takes someone having your back to fill in the gaps that you are unable to. When it comes to booking shows, you definitely need the right person and/or team to get it right for you. Bobby Dee has partnered with Snoop Dogg in order to bring his expertise and great business sense to help facilitate Uncle Snoop’s Army. Bobby Dee took time out of his busy schedule to talk to The Industry Cosign.

How did you get your start in the entertainment industry and how has that start blossomed into what you do today?

My dad owned a nightclub and I was his assistant. It was a big part of my life growing up. I grew up in the industry.

As a businessman, what do you feel is the most important characteristic to have in order to be successful?

Drive, determination, and thick skin. One main thing that has helped me become successful in my line of work is the loyalty I built with artists.

You’ve recently partnered with Snoop Dogg. What are the two of you doing together and what is the name of this collaboration between the two of you?

We have our partnership Snoop Dogg Presents and Bobby Dee Presents, producing some of the hottest concerts and festivals.  We also have a booking agency Uncle Snoop’s Army to be able to give artists the opportunity to get on a stage without the politics of a major agency standing in their way.

How has your business acumen allowed you to expand and grow your business? Do you have any plans for the foreseeable future that you’d like to discuss?

Due to all the sold-out concerts, we have had more exposure to talent buyers and venues. They have reached out to us. In the future, we will continue to provide quality concerts, music festivals, and expose new artists. We want to provide ticket consumers with memorable experiences every time they come to our shows.

What drives and motivates you to continue to get up daily to run your company?

Being able to provide for my mom and dad. I want to repay them for everything they have done for me.

How can someone who has an interest in the touring industry or just the music industry in general, lay down a foundation to have some sort of success? What advice would you give them?

Start off small. Start with small venues like nightclubs or free events to get a sense of mastery for the next level.

What are some of the acts you’ve worked with and how were you able to connect with them?

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Daddy Yankee, Ciara, Akon, Keith Sweat, Rihanna, Banda MS, Ramo Ayala, The Bangles, Morisi, Blondie. Many of these relationships were built prior by my father, others through Snoop Dogg, and some through life experience.

Working in the industry for as long as you have, what do you think will be the next trend?

I think many artists will continue to emerge and gain exposure through the internet and streaming platforms like YouTube and Spotify. Social media has also played a huge role in discovering new artists and their music. We are able to see their personality, style, creativity and the kind of fan base they are gaining.
